At the SXSW 2016 Gaming Expo, it was confirmed that the 3DS title "Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice," developed by Sanzaru, is going to be released on Sept. 27.

Earlier, it was said that the title "Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice" will be coming out in 2015. The game's publisher Sega said that the delay in its release is to give it more time to be polished and perfected.

Based on the TV series "Sonic Boom," this is the third video game of the series while it's also a sequel to the TV series "The Shattered Crystal." For "Fire and Ice," no new window of release for 2016 was provided. The release is going to be solely on Nintendo 3DS. Europe's Nintendo is given the responsibility for the game's marketing, sales and distribution all over Europe. Sanzaru explained that though the disadvantage of this delay is that fans will not be able to play now, its advantage is the more fun filled and stronger experience for fans in the years to come.

The "Fire and Ice' is a side-moving platform game, which focuses on speed and voluntary examination. The player has to play through different levels with the Sonic team. Throughout the game, player has to control Knuckles, Sonic, Sticks, Tails and the new character Amy. Characters' moves are upgraded from the "Shattered Crystal," while retaining same moves with a twist.

One of the unique tricks of the game is the elements fire and ice added to both the character capabilities and level domains. For instance, Sonic is given the ability to permeate himself with fire and destroy the ice blocks or enclose himself with ice to freeze water. He can switch between the two as per choice.

The game introduces four bosses with whom only Sonic can play. It also adds different unique stages, challenge rooms, local two-player techniques and extra mini games.
