Chinese tech giant Xiaomi recently unveiled its own smartwatch. Dubbed the Mi Bunny, the smartwatch is primarily aimed to be marketed to the younger generation. Just like most, if not all, of Xiaomi's devices, the Mi Bunny is modestly priced and is expected to have a price tag of no more than $50 once it hits the market.
Just like most devices targeted to children, the Mi Bunny has a lot of features that will allow parents to keep track of their children's whereabouts and activities. The Chinese tech giant also announced that its first smartwatch for adults will be released within the second half of the year.
The Xiaomi Mi Bunny supports GPS connectivity, Glonass and Wi-Fi. It also supports voice calls and has an embedded SIM card right out of the box. The smartwatch can store up to six phone numbers and communicate with them completely for free. Moreover, initiating a call to the Mi Bunny only takes one tap, this makes it easier for parents to contact their children without taking too much complicated steps.
Xiaomi said that if the user of the smartwatch is not around, family members can still interact with them through the app. The smartwatch also allows parents to mark safety areas using their smartphones. This allow parents to designate a safe area within a house, and then receive notification on their smartphone if their children are out of these designated areas.
Additional safety features of the Mi Bunny smartwatch include an SOS button which can be used for emergency situations. Once pressed, the smartwatch will automatically send a distress signal towards the parents' smartphone alerting them of the situation and the exact location of their children, according to Engadget.
Calls from strangers, or those not added into the smartwatch's contacts list, are automatically rejected. The smartwatch is also waterproof, which means that children can use it while swimming.
A sensor that is capable of tracking the user's sleep is also integrated into the Mi Bunny. Other sensors can automatically record the user's daily activities and keep it for future purposes.
According to NDTV, the Mi Bunny has a 300mAh battery which Xiaomi claims can stay on standby for up to six day. The Mi Bunny smartphone app companion is compatible with Android devices running from Android 4.2 and newer versions. The smartwatch is available in two colors, Pink and Blue.
