Samsung Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier Smartwatches Launched at IFA 2016 Event

The Samsung Gear S3 classic and Gear S3 frontier smartwatches have been launched at the IFA 2016 event.

According to Phone Radar, both the Samsung Gear S3 classic and Gear S3 frontier smartwatches have a somewhat identical design. However, they have unique, interesting features. The smartwatches are outdoor-friendly.

Both Samsung Gear S3 classic and Gear S3 frontier are circular with the new Gorilla Glass SR+ protection on top. They are equipped with a barometer, an always-on display, and a battery that can last for four days.

The Samsung Gear S3 classic has Bluetooth connection only. It is 5 grams lighter than the frontier version and has a more classic timepiece look.

The Samsung Gear S3 classic features a Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels and 48.1% screen-to-body ratio. Its dimensions are 49 x 46 x 12.9 mm and it weighs 57 grams.

The Samsung Gear S3 frontier comes with 4G capability to take calls independent of a smartphone. It can also stream music. It comes in matte black color and is the sportier version of the two.

The Samsung Gear S3 frontier has a Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels and 48.1% screen-to-body ratio. Its dimensions are 49 x 46 x 12.9 mm and it weighs 62 grams, GSM Arena reported.

Samsung Gear 3 smartwatches can survive for around 30 minutes in water up to 5-feet deep. They are compatible with Samsung Pay and run on the Tizen operating system rather than the Google's Android Wear.

The sales of Samsung Gear 3 classic and Gear 3 frontier smartwatches would begin in October. There has been no announcement yet of their exact prices. However, the classic version is expected to be priced at around $350 (approximately Rs. 23,385), but the frontier version with the LTE capability will cost more - possibly about $447.
