Lenovo is now the second biggest smartphone brand in India, behind Samsung.
A report by global market intelligence firm, IDC, on the Indian smartphone market, revealed that Lenovo has moved up from the second position as the largest smartphone brand by value in the country. The Chinese tech giant grabbed a 9.1 percent market share in India, followed by Apple and domestic smartphone maker Micromax.
The report stated that the Lenovo-Motorola partnership also placed at the third spot in terms of the number of units sold in India. The partnership registered a growth of nearly 25 percent in India last year. The company also enjoyed the second position in the online smartphone market with a 20 percent market share.
Lenovo India's Sudhin Mathur has said that he is elated with his company's performance in the last quarter, which ended June 2016.
"This is a huge milestone achieved by us, which has motivated and encouraged us further to go against all odds by creating meaningful and innovative, technologically-advanced products that enhance the consumer mobile experience," he said. The China-based smartphone maker acquired Motorola in 2014.
The Lenovo Vibe K5 Note is one of the fastest selling devices in India. Lenovo, which has already introduced K5, K5 Plus, Moto G4 series and Zuk Z1 in India, is planning to unveil its Z2 Plus and A6600 smartphones in the country.
