Last week, scientists have detected a strong radio signal of alien origin, that could possibly hint at an advanced alien civilization. Now, scientists have pinpointed the source of this strange signal and determined that this comes from a local source, more specifically, our very own satellite communications.
Scientists who detected these alien radio signals are from the SETI (Search for extraterrestrial intelligence) Institute, which is a private organization that aims to search for intelligent, extraterrestrial life. However, some experts warned that this signal might be human made.
This particular radio signal was detected in 2015 by the RATAN-600 radio telescope located at the Caucasus Mountains in Eurasia near the Black Sea with the help of SETI. Data revealed that this signal comes from the star system, HD164595, almost 95 light years away from Earth, which includes a recently discovered planet, however scientists confirm that this planet is uninhabitable.
In a new SETI update, Russian scientists from Russian Academy of Sciences the report that this newest signal is just, "terrestrial interference".
According to Russian Academy of Sciences' director of Institute of Applied Astronomy, Alexander Ipatov, this was truly an unusual signal however, additional checking revealed that it was emitted by a military satellite of Soviet origin.
Why did SETI consider this as an alien signal? Experts believe that in order to generate that kind of powerful radio signal exceeding more than 1 trillion watts to reach Earth, it is plausible that an advanced alien civilization produced this form of communication.
During observations of star system HD164595, this special signal was only detected once during 39 sky observations. Apart from this, SETI was also unable to detect this signal again using their Allen Telescope Array. In addition, the organization also confirmed this finding by describing this as "terrestrial interference" of a military satellite.
