Samsung Galaxy Note Edge and Huawei Mate 8 are unlikely competitors. Both bring radically new features and design to the table, yet when it comes to choosing which to take home and which to leave behind, it is a head scratcher.

Here's a brief review:

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge comes with a screen that folds at the edge of the handset. Tech Radar reported that this marginal space is handy enough to accommodate many OS strip- apps, night clock, contacts, notifications, Twitter, news updates etc. Mostly, the screen lip removes a great many distractions while watching videos. It has a 5.7-inch screen with an edge (as its name suggests). The resolution is great at 1600 x 2560 pixels. It comes with fingerprint scanner and an S pen with enhanced and improved functioning.

Meanwhile, Huawei Mate 8, introduced a year after Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, is colossal with a 6 inch screen space. It may not have "an edge" but it is equipped with a 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution and scores in its display due to its Octa-core processor.

Huawei Mate 8 offers two grades of RAM- either 3 GB or 4 GB. ChinaTopix rates it a notch higher over Galaxy Note Edge, on account of being cheaper and having a longer battery life. Huawei Mate 8 has a 4000 mAh battery as opposed to Samsung Galaxy Note Edge's 3000 mAh battery.

Both the cameras have a 16 MP primary camera; however, Huawei Mate 8 has an 8 MP front camera which Samsung Galaxy Note Edge has to make do with its 3.7 MP front camera.

In terms of color variations, Samsung Galaxy Note edge is available is Black and White while Huawei Mate 8 is available in Gray, Brown, Silver and Gold colors. When it comes to both smartphone's price, Huawei Mate 8 is much affordable with its tag price of $580 unlock while Samsung's flagship is priced at $229 within a two year contract.

If consumers are looking for smartphone with powerful specs, longer battery life yet affordable in price, Huawei Mate 8 is the best choice.
