The highly popular ad-blocking extension Adblock Plus has launched its own advertising network. The company said the new network would focus on showing "acceptable" ads. This is an extension of Adblock's Acceptable Ads program, which has been in force since 2011.

Adblock Plus is free to use and lets users block ads. However, the service has come under fire for undermining the interests of online publishers who use advertisements to fund their operations. Under its new program, Adblock Plus would allow websites to display pre-whitelisted ads. According to The Guardian, these ads will need to meet strict criterions laid down by Adblock Plus.

Adblock co-founder Till Faider has branded the new platform as beneficial to publishers as it will give them the opportunity to display some advertising. According to Fortune, Adblock Plus was recently hit by a court ruling in Germany which stated that the company could not charge publisher Axel Springer for unblocking its ads.

The new platform makes the process smoother. Under the whitelisting process, it took a few weeks for proper scrutiny of an ad. However, the Acceptable Ads Platform now only requires publishers to add a line of code to their ads, to make them "acceptable." Publishers will still be able to show ads to the users who do not use Adblock Plus.

Adblocker is planning to set up a committee to determine Acceptable Ad guidelines.
