League of Legends has proved its dominance by accumulating over 103 million monthly active users, putting it far ahead of its competitors. Riot Games reported that the game's userbase stood at 67 million in 2014. League of Legends was among the highest revenue making free-to-play games in July 2016.
The game boasts of 132 champions; each has a unique backstory, costume, and abilities. The number of champions is being increased with new updates. According to Engadget, Lead Game Designer Greg Street said, "For the next few years, releasing a new champion is one of the most exciting moments for League players."
League of Legends has universal appeal with its players coming from diverse places ranging from Brazil to Vietnam. The diversity of its players poses a challenge to the developers of the game. "League players tend to be pretty hardcore, so it may be weird to consider how diverse the community can be, but with 100 million players, the diversity is pretty mind-boggling," Street said.
Game Spot reported that Riot Games' co-founder Brandon Beck alluded that the company is currently working on prototypes of new games. During an interview with Polygon, Beck stated that these games might not use League of Legends property. He stated that some experiences are better realized in different universes. However, he said that the developers are being flexible.
