Apple has decided to bring iOS's faithful virtual assistant Siri to desktop. Siri can do the things that she does on the iPhone and iPads, with some Mac-specific capabilities too, Engadget reported. In addition to searching the web, drafting messages, checking the weather and stocks, among others, Siri can help Mac users search files, adjust system settings, and inform users about various system information such as local storage space.
Next, there is Auto Unlock, a feature that will prove to be handy. Unlike iPhones, Macs do not have Touch IDs, and thus require passwords to be unlocked. Auto Unlock gives users the convenience of unlocking their Macs running on Sierra simply by using an Apple watch. Although it takes some effort to set up, it does help in unlocking Macs faster.
Then, there's the convenience of Apple Pay on the web. To use this requires an iPhone or Apple watch to work. It gives shoppers an easy - and thus tempting - way to shop online.
Apple also introduced the Universal Clipboard in Sierra. This nifty feature enables one to sync files or data between Sierra Macs and iOS 10 devices.
Other things that Apple included in Sierra:
- Picture in Picture view, which allows users to pop-out a video into a floating window that stays on top of other windows;
- Apple Music, Message, and Photos makeovers;
- Optimized Storage that automatically stores old and seldom-used files, as well as already viewed iTunes videos into iCloud;
- Other miscellaneous changes. Check this website for details.
The macOS Sierra update brings with it things that are not that exciting, but still fairly useful and helpful. The update is also free and would not take up too much space.
