Great news for Xbox lovers-slash-Samsung Gear VR owners: Microsoft's new Xbox Wireless controller does not just work with the new Xbox One S, as it also supports Samsung's Gear VR.
Earlier, Microsoft announced that it is planning to expand the Xbox Wireless ecosystem to include both Xbox One consoles and Windows 10-powered PCs. Now, the tech giant has made the Xbox Wireless Controller compatible with Samsung's Gear VR, and has made "MineCraft: Gear VR Edition" its first title of choice.
Those who want to enjoy this feature will need to do a couple of things before they can use it. First, users will have to download the latest update for the Xbox Wireless Controller. Second, players will have to wait for the MineCraft: Gear VR Edition October update in the Oculus App.
Once both updates are installed, all that is left is connecting the controller to the Gear VR via Bluetooth, and players can play the game with a fresh perspective - and a cool controller in hand.
Microsoft promises that in the coming months, more titles will be included in the roster of games supported by the Xbox Wireless Controller. These titles include "Herobound," "Spirit Champion," "Omega Agent," and "End Space."
"Beyond Minecraft: Gear VR Edition, we're working hard to make the Xbox Wireless Controller compatible with all controller-supported Gear VR games and future games too," Microsoft wrote.
Custom Color
For an additional price, players will now be able to choose the colors of their Xbox One S controllers: including the body, the back panel, the bumper and triggers, D-pad, thumbsticks, ABXY, as well as view and menu buttons.
According to PCWorld, those who want to order custom-colored Xbox One S controllers should check out the Xbox Design Lab website, and be free to design their controllers. Although the number of available colors is not so many, one can still choose from a possible eight million color combinations.
The custom controllers are not at par with the $150 Elite controller that Microsoft released last year, but it is better than the stock Xbox One controller. And for the $80 price tag, it would not hurt to buy a controller with a personal touch.
