A new WhatsApp feature allows users to draw over their pictures.

WhatsApp announced earlier that users can now perform Snapchat-style doodling on top of their photos, and overlap those drawings with others. Aside from that, the app now supports colored text, a front-facing flash and video zoom for video recording. The doodling tool was tested back in September.

According to the blog post published by WhatsApp, users will automatically see the new editing tool. Whether they are taking a new photo or sharing what's in the phone gallery, users will be able to draw, write, or add their favorite emoji's to better express what they want to say.

WhatsApp announced that the new feature would be available on Android devices, but iOS users will have to wait a little bit longer.

WhatsApp (also owned by Facebook) and Facebook Messenger currently has more than one billion active users, far more than its rival social media and messaging app, Snapchat. Although Facebook has been borrowing some of Snapchat's key features, the company is still worried about the competition it is facing from the rival app.

According to The Verge, Snapchat still possesses an existential threat to both Facebook and WhatsApp because it has a feature that both apps fear - Snapchat memories do not live like Facebook's collective memory.
