Fisker Inc., the brainchild of Henrik Fisker, is set to unveil a new electric vehicle in the latter half of the next year. The company has been working on developing a battery technology to improve the performance of its electric vehicles. Fisker is touting the new car as "a spiritual successor to Fisker Karma."
The upcoming model is expected to have "the world's longest electric range of any production car previously developed." Fisker reported that this made possible by the new battery technology which was developed by the company's battery division, Fisker Nanotech. In a statement released by the firm, the technology makes use of "lightweight materials" and "new packaging."
The new batteries will reportedly not be in the conventional lithium-ion mold. However, it will still use some lithium in it. The new car is also expected to have 400-mile plus driving range and a more spacious interior. The company also plans to supply batteries to other car brands.
Fisker Inc. is a separate company and is not affiliated with the first Fisker Automotive, which was later acquired by China's auto giant Wanxiang. The original company was founded in 2007 and had an impressive roster of celebrity customers. The company had also raised massive funding from venture capitalists. However, due to several reasons, the automaker declared bankruptcy and was acquired by Wanxiang. The Chinese company also bought A123 Systems, the company which supplied batteries for original Fisker Karma.
