Amazon is looking to sell fast speed internet services in Europe. The service may be packaged with its Prime offerings. The combination will allow the company to stream its services in a more efficient manner. The move will effectively turn Amazon into a cable operator in Europe.

According to The Information, Amazon is considering debuting such a bundle in Europe as it provides more conducive regulatory environment for such services. Many countries in Europe require internet providers to offer wholesale access to their network to competing companies. The United Kingdom and Germany are among the countries offering such regulations.

Amazon may choose to be a reseller of internet services by procuring wholesale access from the established broadband services providers. This arrangement will allow Amazon to operate without investing into establishing a broadband infrastructure.

However, there is no such requirement in the United States, making it much more difficult for Amazon to offer this service state side. In the United States, many companies offer cable and internet bundles to their subscribers. At the very same time, the US allows broadband providers to restrict access to their network. Google Fiber has currently fallen victim to such regulations as ISPs practice iron clad control over their infrastructure such as utility poles.

There is no clarity about the modus operandi for Amazon. It is likely that the service will be added to Prime package. In thiscase, the company may see further growth of its already burgeoning Prime user base. The tech giant currently offers video streaming, faster shipping, e-books and various other services to its Prime users.
