Google has given a makeover to its cloud storage product catalogue. The company has also slashed prices to a new low.
Google now offers four different options for storage; Multi-Regional, Regional, Nearline and Coldline. Out of these, Coldline is the new addition and is aimed at users who are not very active. The service comes with the lowest price.
Google aims to integrate these offerings with services from various Google Cloud Storage partners such as Cloudberry Lab, Cloudian, and Fastly. The company also announced that it is slashing its API operations pricing for Multi-Regional and Regional products. The lower prices will be effective from November 1. Under the new pricing, Class A operations will cost $0.005 per 1,000 operations while Class B operations will cost $0.004 per 10,000 operations, amounting to a 50 percent and 60 percent reduction respectively.
Google's topline product is 'Multi-Regional' storage service which is priced at 2.6 cents per GB each month. This service is aimed at storing frequently accessed data. It is designed for services running videos or providing content delivery.
Google offers 99.95 percent availability for data under this category. Clients may choose to store their data in the US, European Union or Asia. However, the data will be replicated across different regions to provide a cushion against outage in one region.
Google has also introduced new data lifecycle management capabilities to let users divide their data into different tiers. Users can automatically move data by its age. The information is sent to cheaper Nearline or Coldline storage as it ages.
