It is likely that Instagram is using its beta version to test live video broadcast. The feature is likely to be on the same lines as Facebook Live. The experimental feature was first spotted by Russian publication T Journal.

Instagram is apparently looking to capitalize on the burgeoning live video segment.

Instagram's parent Facebook has the Facebook Live feature, which lets users post live videos straight to their feed. The feature leads to a more natural interaction between users and their contacts.

According to T Journal, the new Instagram function closely mimics its Stories feature. However, the videos are likely to come with a 'Live' tag. This feature will let the users know their video is running live.

However, information about this feature is scant as clicking on the link leads to a "popular live broadcasts" page. However, the page does not load and thus, the trail ends. However, it is likely that unlike Facebook Live where the videos do not seem to have duration limits, Instagram Live will only feature 60-second long videos.

There have been rumors about this feature for a long time. Instagram's parent company is making a push to develop live experiences. The company is also making massive investments in the Virtual Reality segment. According to The Verge, Facebook considers live videos as a path to reach virtual reality. Videos will also help the company to generate revenue.
