Following the Galaxy Note 7 debacle, Samsung is once again in the spotlight due to problems with its washing machines.
The South Korean company has said that it would recall around 2.8 million automatic washers in the United States to ensure the safety of consumers. According to a statement from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the top part of the Samsung washing machine can "unexpectedly detach from the chassis" during usage which may result to injury.

Samsung has reportedly received nine reports of injuries from users who suffered from injured a shoulder, a broken jaw, and other fall-related physical damage. The manufacturing date of the recalled machines is between March 2011 and November 2016.
Samsung recently announced a global recall of the Galaxy Note 7 smartphones after receiving multiple reports of explosions and fire due to faulty batteries. The company has successfully recalled 2.5 million units of the smartphone.
The defect of the recalled washing machines does not seem similar to the issues of the smartphone. Samsung has said that the possible causes of the detachment of the washer's top include high-speed washing of bulky or water resistant items. A court document about a case in Texas claims that the washer "exploded with such ferocity that it penetrated the interior wall of garage."
Samsung has released a statement assuring customers that they will receive home repairs free of charge. This will include "reinforcement of the washer's top" and an extension of the warranty. A rebate is also offered and can be used on a product of Samsung or any other brands. A full refund will be awarded to customers who bought the recalled washing machine in the last 30 days.
