A report released by the United Nations Environment Program claims that global warming is inevitable, despite the world's best effort to curb the calamity.

Countries around the globe have been developing strategies to outpace the rapid growth of carbon levels on the Earth. The Paris climate agreement, which would be fully implemented this month, sees almost every country commit to lowering the amount of greenhouse gas emissions. Although the results may not be immediate, it is expected to ease half as much as much emissions as is needed to prevent an increase of 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit in global temperature.

However, the new report suggests that even with the execution of the Paris climate agreement, the Earth is already set to exceed its emission target. Based on the study, USA Today reported that the Earth's annual greenhouse gas emissions are anticipated to reach to about 54 to 55 billion tons. That is far above the 42 billion tons per year needed to succeed in limiting global warming to 3.6 degrees.

But scientists say that the findings of the new report came as no surprise. The Verge reported that in September, scientists recorded the Earth exceeding the crucial carbon dioxide threshold of 400 parts per million. They believe that the Earth is unlikely to return to a threshold lower than that.

While President Barack Obama has said that the Paris climate agreement will delay and circumvent the worst consequences of climate change, the new report indicates that the world's effort to curb global warming is not enough. Scientists say that much more is needed to prevent the inevitable catastrophe from happening soon.
