German automaker Volkswagen recently announced that the company's upcoming 2018 VW Golf would be packed with new features that are not usually found on a compact class car. As for the United States market, Volkswagen is yet to confirm what features and upgrades are in the pipeline. However, Volkswagen confirmed that in other markets, the 2018 Golf would receive upgrades on its engine, transmissions, styling, electronic driving aids, and the latest suite of infotainment technology, according to Motor Authority.
As for the car's exterior look, the 2018 Volkswagen Golf will have a new bumper design and new LED headlights to replace the xenon units used on the previous model. Moreover, the Golf GTI and the Golf R variants will receive a slew of new upgrades like new fog lights and a larger opening on their front bumpers.
The 2018 Volkswagen Golf's base engine is the new turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-4. It packs 148 horsepower and cylinder deactivation. As for the car's transmission, Volkswagen confirmed that a new 7-speed dual clutch transmission would be available as well, according to CNet.
As for the Golf GTI, this variant will receive a slight bump in its power. The standard Golf GTI model will have 227 horsepower, while the Golf GTI Performance model will have 242 horsepower. In terms of comparison, current Golf GTI models sold in the U.S. market have 210 horsepower. A Performance Package upgrade will push it to 220 horsepower.
On the other hand, because of the diesel emissions scandal that mired Volkswagen's operations, the Golf R 400 concept was shelved.
