Alphabet is putting the brakes on Project Wing, its drone delivery team. It is also believed to have shelved the deal with Starbucks to deliver the products via air. The likely reason behind the collapse of the deal is consumer data. Project Wing is also collaborating with Chipotle to deliver burritos in Virginia Tech.

According to Bloomberg, Alphabet is currently trimming its various units including Project Wing, which is a part of X research lab. The project leader Dave Vos left the company in October. It is also believed that no new hiring are being made and some of the current employees have been shift elsewhere within the company.
Project Wing recently won approval to test flights at a US site. A month later, the company announced its collaboration with Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. to deliver food. The company also tested its flights for Starbucks before the disagreement over the use of customer data.
Initially, Alphabet wanted to use drones to deliver essential goods such as medicines. However, the company later changed its track to try delivery of food and other perishables. Alphabet is looking for alternative uses as well.
In an email statement, a spokeswoman for X research lab stated that "What we're doing now is developing the next phase of our technology, and as always are thinking in a very broad way about all the potential use cases for delivery by unmanned aerial systems."
Project Wing is reported to be in talks for grocery delivery in Ireland. Drone laws are more relaxed in Ireland than in the US.
