A Canadian couple named Dan and Davina Dixon have sued a fertility doctor named Dr. Norman Darwin after discovering that he is the biological father of their daughter Rebecca.
The complainants sought help from the specialist, and in 1990, Davina gave birth. She explained in the Alison Motluk's documentary "And That's Why Everything is Different" that she saw clues along the way.

Their daughter was diagnosed with a hereditary celiac disease which made her parents wonder if she really was their own. Dan thought that "there is a quick way we could find out. Why don't we get her blood type? Because I'm AB and Davina is O. So if Rebecca were an O we would know for sure she wasn't ours." The test confirmed that their daughter's blood type was O revealing that she is not Dan's biological child.
"I think Dan had thoughts that Dr. Darwin had used his own sperm because he thinks Rebecca looks like Dr. Darwin," Davina said.
After considering the possibility of Dr. Darwin using his sperm to impregnate women, a test was conducted to determine if another child born at the clinic may be Rebecca's half-sister.DNA tests confirmed this to be the case.
In 2013, Dr. Darwin was suspended from the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons after claiming that he used wrong sperms in the insemination of four women. Ms. Palmer said that the specialist claims "he had been testing a sperm counter and this must've been some contamination."
The retired fertility doctor faces a lawsuit in Ottawa. He has been ordered to make his DNA available for testing and has not commented on the allegations yet.
