Lotus recently unveiled the Exige Sport 380, the latest and fastest version of the company's Exige brand. Dubbed as a "supercar killer," the Exige Sport 380 can accelerate from zero to 60mph in just 3.5 seconds.
In a statement acquired by Auto Mobile Mag, Lotus chief executive officer Jean-Marc Gales said, "We've saved something special for our last new car of 2016. The new Exige Sport 380 is considered the spiritual successor of the Exige Sport 350. Compared to its predecessor, the new Exige is lighter weighing in at only 2,425 pounds making it 55 points lighter than the Lotus Sport 350 which debuted in 2015.
The Exige brand is known for its small design that packs a powerful engine, and the Exige 3Sport 80 is not an exception. Powering the beast is a supercharged 3.5-liter V6 engine capable of outputting up to 375 horsepower and 302 pound-feet of torque, according to CNet. The car has a six-speed manual gearbox.
Lotus said that a model with an optional six-speed automatic transmission and shifter paddles is in the works.
The Exige brand is also known for its lightweight build, and Lotus was able to achieve this by building the Exige Sport 380 using mostly lightweight carbon fiber. The car's front splitter right up to the rear wing is made of lightweight carbon fiber. Additionally, the rear window of the car is made of polycarbonate material. Lotus said that the Exige Sport 380 would be available in ten different exteriors, with an optional accent pack that adds one of five different color choices.
The basic model of the Lotus Exige Sport 380 starts at $84,000. For an additional cost, interested buyers have the option to throw in performance or design upgrades to the car.
