MediaTek wants to address a key problem in the autonomous car industry. Most car makers outsource their components from different third-party vendors, making these components difficult to merge with one another seamlessly, according to Android Headlines.
In a statement acquired by Venture Beat, MediaTek corporate vice president JC Hsu said, "MediaTek-powered cars of the future will incorporate the best of autonomous driving, infortainment, and convenience features across one seamlessly integrated package of semiconductors."
Hsu added that MediaTek is planning to build high-performance components which will have an integral impact on the mass production of autonomous cars.
MediaTek's plan for the autonomous car industry will cover four key areas. The company is currently working on a new vision advanced driver assistance system which can handle huge amounts of streamed visual data.
MediaTek is also working on enhanced communication components for millimeter wave radar. The company is known for its expertise in the development of 3G and 4G networks. There are speculations that the company is working on the next-generation 5G network.
Another aspect of autonomous car building that MediaTek wants to develop is infotainment. The company said that it is developing new 3D and 3D processing technologies which are power efficient.
MediaTek is also working on technologies to enhance telematics. With most of its new products, the company has promised that all its upcoming technologies and hardware will be power efficient without sacrificing processing power.
