The update will be released to the following devices: Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, and General Mobile 4G or Android One. (LG/CC BY 2.0)
When Google released its flagship Pixel phones, the devices were running on the Android 7.1 Nougat, which is a slightly updated version of the original operating system with a few new nifty features. Google has announced that it is rolling out the Android 7.1.1 Nougat to a handful of Android phones.

Google said that the update would be rolled out soon although the tech giant did not provide a specific time frame. The update will be released to the following devices: Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, and General Mobile 4G or Android One.
Google said that the new update will bring support for the "image keyboard" feature, which allows users to easily find and send pictures without the need to leave the messaging app that they are using. The search giant added that the feature will work with the default Android Messaging app, Allo, and Hangouts, according to The Verge. The same feature was added to the Gboard for iOS keyboard, which was released in spring.
The upcoming Android 7.1.1 Nougat update will also bring a new set of emojis, including those that focus on showing a "wider range of professions" for women. The update will also integrate a new app shortcut feature, which was originally launched with the Pixel brand. This can be activated by holding an app's icon until a submenu of shortcuts appear. The feature is somewhat similar to the force touch shortcuts which is integrated on iPhone smartphones.
According to Engadget, just like much of its past roll outs, Google said that the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update would not reach all supported devices simultaneously. Instead, Google will be releasing it "over the next several weeks." Those who are interested in getting the update can enroll in Google's Android Beta preview program.
