Last month, Microsoft unintentionally revealed the minimum hardware requirements for desktop computers to run Windows 10 VR headsets. Microsoft on Thursday revealed the full details of its virtual reality roadmap along with the confirmation of the minimum hardware requirement to run its VR platform.

For a desktop computer to run Windows 10 VR headsets, it must have at least an Intel Mobile Core i5 dual-core processor with Hyperthreading or equivalent chips. For a graphics card, the computer must have at least an Integrated Intel HD 620 equivalent or a newer DX12 API compatible graphics card. The computer must have at least 8GB of memory configured in dual-channel when using integrated graphics.
Other requirements include an HDMI 1.4 with 2880x1440 support at 60Hz or an HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort 1.3 with 2880x1440 support at 90Hz. Storage space of at least 100GB. A USB 3.0 Type-A or USB 3.1 Type-C Port with DisplayPort Alternate Mode. Lastly, a Bluetooth 4.0 support for accessories and other peripherals.
These hardware specifications were picked as part of Microsoft's partnership with Intel called Project Evo. According to The Verge, the two tech giants are working on a project that seeks to bring mixed reality to Windows 10 computers. Moreover, Microsoft has also submitted the company's HoloLens virtual reality headset to Chinese regulators for approval. Once approved, Microsoft will release the virtual reality headset to Chinese developers within the first half of 2017.
According to CNet, the primary goal of Project Evo is to bring virtual reality, along with related immersive products, to midrange laptops and computers.
Microsoft has said it plans to open Windows 10 VR headsets to developers for testing within the first quarter of 2017. Microsoft said that developer kits would be available at the Games Developers Conference. Microsoft is keeping its plans for the Windows 10 VR a secret, as well as how the company will handle the HoloLens.
