Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has expressed his liking for Minecraft saying that Nintendo made something similar to the sandbox game.
In an interview with Gixel, Miyamoto said that he likes Minecraft and that his company "actually done a lot of experiments that were similar to that back in the N64 days" and that they "had some designs that were' similar." He commended Mojang for its idea, which has turned into a best-selling product.

Minecraft was originally developed by Markus Persson, a Swedish game designer and later on published by Mojang. The gameplay allows gamers to create and build a world with 3D textured cubes. What makes the game more enjoyable are other features such as crafting, resource collection, exploration, and combat. Gamers can also choose from survival mode, creative mode, adventure mode, and spectator mode.
The sandbox game began as a small experiment before it broke the gaming world through word of mouth from internet forums and with private servers during the late 90s. On the other hand, Super Mario and other Nintendo games became popular during the time when gamers preferred platformers and shooters. Game analysts say that the closest Nintendo game to Minecraft is the Super Mario Maker released on 3DS in 2015. It allows gamers to create and share levels from Super Mario Bros, Super Mario World, and Super Mario Bros 3.
In the same interview, the Legend of Zelda and Donkey Kong creator said that he likes playing the Japanese cat collecting game, Neko Atsume. He also described Square Enix's The Last Guardian and Sony Interactive Entertainment's Final Fantasy XV as "really impressive graphically" although he has not played them yet.
With strict competition in the gaming industry, Miyamoto "hope that people who are looking for a fantasy game in that realm will also keep in mind [The Legend of Zelda] Breath of the Wild."
