People have different clothing preferences when sleeping. While some may opt to sleep naked, others prefer to wear comfortable clothing. There are varying opinions about whether sleeping with one's underwear is a healthy practice?

According to LiveScience, medical experts have finally laid down the advantages and disadvantages of wearing underwear at bedtime.

The answer is different for men and women. For men, whether you wear underwear or not would not make any difference. It will not benefit nor have any disadvantage on a man's health if he prefers to wear a brief or boxers.

According to Dr. Michael Eisenberg from Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, California, even men who are trying to conceive need not worry about wearing something to sleep or not.

The study involved 500 men, who were asked about their underwear choices at different times of the day, for a 12-month period.

The result showed that there is no significant difference in conception whether men wore a boxer, brief, or nothing at all to sleep.

For women, however, the effects of wearing underwear or not seems to differ from case-to-case. Women do not have to worry if they want to sleep with underwear or none as there are no health risks of either practice.

However, if a woman is suffering from chronic vulvitis or chronic vaginitis, she would be prone to itchiness, irritation, and vaginal yeast infections. In such a case, sleeping without underwear is preferred, according to Dr. Alyssa Dweck from Mount Kisco, New York.

Letting air pass through the vagina especially when one has infections is good for the genitals as it can provide relief. And for the rest of the day, wearing a cotton panty is the best because it is absorbent and comfortable.
