Design
Looking at the leaked photo of the allegedly final design of the "Samsung Galaxy S8," it is apparent that some of the previously speculated details were spot on. The front panel of the smartphone features a curved display, the top portion holds an earpiece, selfie camera and iris scanner that first appeared on the doomed Note 7, says The Telegraph. The bottom chin no longer has the physical home button, which makes it the first model from Samsung to ditch it.
The rear portion still has the curved design found on the S7 Edge, while its camera module is now flanked by a flash module/optical Heart Rate Sensor (HRM) on the left, while its fingerprint scanner now sits on the right. The bottom frame can be seen holding a USB type-C port, a speaker grille and 3.5mm headset jack. Although not visible, reports say the top frame only holds a SIM tray like its predecessor. The power button stays on its right flank and volume rocker on the right side.
Hardware, camera and features
According to GSM Arena, the leak confirms the two S8 model sizes previously speculated. The regular model will sport a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED and a 6.2-inch for the Plus version. Both displays will reportedly sport an uncommon 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Each model will either run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset or the latest Samsung Exynos model depending on the market. Additionally, the RAM size of each variant will still be 4GB. The base internal memory size is now 64GB and still expandable through a microSD.
The main shooters on both models will be a 12MP unit like the one on its predecessor, but reportedly showcases a new visual search option. Its selfie requirements are fulfilled by an 8MP snapper with an iris scanner technology beside it. Power requirements are handled by a 3,000mAh battery for the regular model, while its larger sibling is powered by a larger 3,500mAh unit. Each smartphone will run on Android 7.0 Nougat and carry the Bixby virtual assistant.
Price and release date
According to the leak, the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be officially launched on March 29, 2017 in New York, and it will be available for purchase by April 21, 2017. The official price for the two variants are estimated to be $857 for the regular S8, while the larger model will retail for an estimated $964.
