A Snapchat's Spectacles user has claimed that the case of his smart glasses melted while charging. "I got a burning smell, it had melted the internals. Luckily, the Spectacles weren't inside the case, so they didn't go the same route as a Note 7," said the user.
After charging the Spectacles for half an hour, the user, who wished not to be named, returned to find that the internals had melted. He also provided the news website TechCrunch with the photographs of the melted case. According to him and visible in the photos, "the big button and LEDs...all that is now a wired mash."

A spokesperson form the Snap Inc. responded by saying that their team is in touch with the customer and are working with him to investigate the issue. They also said that until they know more, they cannot make any comments, adding that "nothing is more important to us than the safety of our community."
The Spectacles were bought by the customer in mid-December from the New York City Spectacles pop-up store. He had charged the case and glasses many a times without any issues, using the included special cable connected to a laptop, battery pack, or Apple iPhone charger. But this last time, after half an hour of connecting the Spectacles case to the same Apple 5W wall charging brick, the owner got a burning smell and the case was very hot when he went to touch it, he said. Then he unplugged it and let it cool off.
After hearing the incident, Snap Inc, Snapchat's parent company, jumped into action and offered to hand-deliver the owner a brand new pair of Spectacles and take the old one back for further investigation. The owner says the company has done a good job handling support.
