According to the press release on gaming website Gamasutra, the success of the company is exemplified by "8 Ball Pool" which became the second most downloaded game in the US.
The popularity of this billiards game, together with the publisher's other games, are the reasons why the mobile developer has become the top mobile game company in the US in terms of downloads on the Android platform.
The "8 Ball Pool" developer reached the number four position on the list of mobile game publishers worldwide with the most downloads on iOS and Android combined. This meant that downloads for Miniclip games in December surpassed that of Supercell games which includes Clash of Clans and Clash Royale.
The previous month, the mobile developer was the top publisher in the US on Android devices. This placed it higher than publishers like Activision Blizzard, King, Zynga, and EA. The company was number two in the US on iOS devices with only Nintendo ranked higher.
Despite occupying high ranking positions in global and regional app store charts, the company has not received as much acclaim or recognition as its competitors who receive more media attention. The mobile publisher also has previously had a difficult time in translating the popularity of its games into revenue.
A good number of games of Miniclip were designed without a plan for monetisation when they were released. It seems that monetisation was later introduced as shown by "8 Ball Pool" which has hit number one on the top grossing charts in the UK after over five years since it was launched.
In the UK, The popular billiards game outgrossed apps such as Pokemon Go, Spotify, Candy Crush Saga, and Tinder. The announcement of Miniclip that its games had been downloaded over a billion times across iOS, Android and Windows devices, marked the success it had achieved to this point.
