Google has rolled out the public beta version of the latest Android Nougat update. The 7.1.2 build will address bugs and fixes as well as add minor features to some devices. The following steps detail how to download it, but only a few devices can enjoy the beta update.

Android has been steadily updated now and then, as Google intends to expand its influence across smartphones. However, upgrades have always been an issue, as major upgrades cannot be implemented across all Android smartphones because providing the updates depend on the phone manufacturer's decision.

The Nougat 7.1.2 beta will only be available for a few Nexus phones and all Pixel phones. The beta is part of an incremental release. Thus we can expect more small updates in a short period.

As mentioned by Google, all Pixel devices, namely the Google Pixel, Pixel XL, and Pixel C will receive the update. As for Nexus devices, only the Nexus 5X and Nexus Player will receive the update now, while the Nexus 6P is set to receive the update soon without any specific date. Surprisingly, Nexus 9 will not receive the update.

Other non-Google devices using the Android OS for their smartphones will not get the beta roll-out. However, it could mean that a more stable version will be waiting for other devices like Samsung, Huawei, Sony, and Xiaomi.

To download the beta on a Nexus or Pixel smartphone, simply go to g.co/androidbeta in your browser, after which you will be asked to sign into your Google account. Scroll down and look for "Eligible devices." Find your device and click "Enroll device" to get the beta update.
