Following recent speculations about an upcoming modular smartphone from Alcatel, the company plans to unveil five new devices at the MWC.
Alcatel's modular smartphone is expected to have a replaceable back module like Motorola's Z generation phones. Leaked images show the back of the smartphone feature dotted panels similar to JBL's Pulse speakers. This modular back speaker is said to change colors while music is playing. The smartphone is rumored to run on an octa-core MediaTek chipset. It will also feature a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash. There is no information yet regarding the name of the smartphone. The new smartphone could be named the Idol 5, a successor to the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 4 which was announced at last year's MWC.
The Mobile World Congress has been traditionally the place where big tech companies gather and showcase new mobile innovations, and Alcatel has been a part of it for years. Alcatel, which was previously known as Alcatel OneTouch, is a brand of mobile devices under the China-based TCL Corporation. Alcatel was established in 2004 as a joint venture between two companies, Alcatel-Lucent and TCL. Alcatel is a wholly-owned subsidiary group of TCL Corporation.
