A giant Checkerboard is visible from space that an astronaut in the International Space Station (ISS) was so amazed of the sight. The checkerboard is so big that it covers a big surface across the planet Earth. However, this giant chess board is not real but is actually a vast area of land in the Idaho area that are divided in a checkered pattern.

In a report by LiveScience, the giant and amazing sight is a checkerboard pattern created by the divided parcels of land way back in the 1800's. It can be recalled that the U.S. government granted an alternate arrangement of land divided into a 1-square mile each of lot to the Northern Pacific Railway. However, these lots were sold to logging companies and used for timber harvesting. This alternate pattern is a method implemented for sustainable logging.

Additionally, according to Longroom the giant chess board is bordered by the Priest River on the left side winding and flowing through the Selkirk Mountains in Northern Idaho. This river, which used to be the transport route of the loggers was later classified as a wild and scenic river' protected site in 1968.

At present, these alternate square design patters of lands is seen as a chessboard up in space. The white squares are the deforested snow covered parcels of land. On the opposite, the dark blocks are the densely covered forest according to NASA reports. Hence, the whole area exhibits a stunningly beautiful sight in space.

For those who can play chess or checkers on board, it would be a good try to play the game in space. However, one needs to go to the ISS to do this but at a very high price.
