GoPro suffered a stunning $116 million loss because of the Hero 5 production issues and Karma drone recalls. The Hero 6 scheduled to be released this year gives the hope of recovering from the big losses of the company last quarter.

As mentioned, the Karma drone needed to be recalled because of instances in which the drones lose their power mid-flight. Though the Karma drone resumed sale on selected stores early February, the losses incurred because of the problem is hard to reverse.

And to make things a bit more disappointing, the Karma won't have neither an upgrade nor a price cut - which will only make it harder for GoPro. According to reports, the Karma was confirmed to be working greatly since it received a change in the battery clasp mechanism - and that's all. However, a free Hero 5 camera was given to early buyers for free because of the inconvenience it may have caused the customer.

Some of the new products currently launched are the Karma core ($399) and Flight Kit ($599). The initial release of the Karma is quite well-received, but because of its failure, it's quite unsure if it can redeem itself.

Now, the tech company will be launching the Hero 6 this year, in contrary to the belief that it may actually be released next year. The Hero 4 and Hero 5 had a two-year gap, so people speculated that the Hero 6 will be for 2018. But seems like the financial hardships GoPro is experiencing made them decide to launch something big this year to counter the $116 million loss from the last quarter of 2016.

A few weeks ago in Consumer Electronics Show 2017, Nicholas Woodman expressed his vision to have a spherical GoPro camera. Though he didn't spill if that is how the Hero 6 will look like, we can imagine what new capabilities and features the new camera will have in store.
