The proposed smart city in Bengaluru will assign digital IDs to all its houses.
Houses in Bengaluru would soon have their own unique digital numbering system, as proposed by the state government under the Center's Smart City Mission project.
The proposed system will assign each address an eight-digit alphanumeric code, dubbed the standardized digital address number. Houses will also automatically be tagged on the global geopositioning system (GPS), allowing them to be traced through Google Maps, Times of India reported. A centralized repository will also be available to the public.

Aside from giving an easy access to addresses, the system will also reveal land parcels with no properties yet. Moreover, owners cannot get away from paying taxes this time as survey and subdivision numbers will be linked to the cadastral map, which contains relevant information about the property. Furthermore, granting that the system will incorporate facility services such as power and water supply, civic agencies could efficiently monitor such services.
"The authorities concerned will be able to access details of those who've defaulted on property tax, have unpaid traffic dues etc, at their fingertips," Muralidhara Turuvekere, an officer for the smart city project, said.
The pilot program will initially cover 2 lakh houses in the city first and will be gradually extended, with plans to eventually bring tier-2 cities. And if it receives an approval from the Smart City Mission, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will survey an additional of 25 lakh houses.
"Given the scope of the project, we are looking to set up a cloudbased system for easy access to information collected in the survey," a BBMP official said, adding that it will also serve as a navigation network that will help create a base map with specific details of all the roads within the BBMP limits.
But even before all these plans are realized, Bengaluru need to pass for the Smart City competition first, with its last round scheduled next month.
