"They Shall Not Pass," which is scheduled to be released next month, is not in connection directly to the game's first expansion. There is no information yet as to what is in the update.
According to GameSpot, public test servers were recently launched by DICE for "Battlefield 1." After testing the servers, the changes that will be seen may be included in the Winter update. Some of which include the capability to vote for the next map after a match, an increase to 50 in the maximum class rank, also the return of the ribbons. After reaching a certain milestone during a match, these said ribbons supposedly awards experience to players. The complete patch notes for the primary Community Test Environment patch can be seen on Reddit.
"Battlefield 1" will be the fifth installment in the Battlefield series. First-person shooter games like this indicate that the World War 1 period is worth revisiting. More so, this is the first main entry in the Battlefield series since "Battlefield 4."
