Xbox One S and Project Scorpio will not shorten console generations, according to Microsoft. Instead, both consoles will support 4K resolutions and VR and will come with games designed to account for each system's hardware.
However, reports claim that while Microsoft confirmed all games and accessories will support all Xbox One versions, including the long awaited Microsoft Project Scorpio, it may not be true. Only Project Scorpio will reportedly have VR support and there will certainly be VR-only games which will work only with the console.

It was then clarified that what Microsoft meant was everything that works on the Xbox One will work on Project Scorpio. The company stressed the importance of taking advantage of various hardware competencies when making a game.
It appears that Microsoft will make an Xbox One upgrade so it will be able to access the initial requirements of 4K and VR technologies. It aims to negate the expectations that customers need to buy new systems each time there is an upgrade. It wants to promote that the Microsoft Project Scorpio and Xbox One S are really about keeping up with the trend.
According to reports, Microsoft is aware of its need to innovate hardware without having to sacrifice compatibility as a new console hardware iteration renders incompatibility with the games and accessories it supports.
The company has overcome this issue that purchasing games and accessories for Xbox One or buying an Xbox One S does not pose a problem anymore when a gamer wants to use them on Project Scorpio. Microsoft states that when it comes to games lineup compatibility, it promises a commitment of compatibility between systems even after an upgrade.
Microsoft has emphasized that the Xbox One Scorpio will feature a 4K Blu-ray drive. The company has positioned the Xbox One Scorpio as a high-end console for hardcore players and it will be priced at a premium before 2017 ends. It is speculated to include 6 teraflops of GPU which is more powerful that the PS4 Pro.
