WhatsApp is launching a new update that allows users to update their status in a very unique way. The feature can be seen by as everyone or by the user's chosen recipients. WhatsApp Update's new Status feature allows users to include emojis, drawings, and GIFs on their status temporarily. These special characters will disappear 24 hours after they are posted.

Fans who use Snapchat would see this as a very familiar feature. After all, this WhatsApp update relates so much with the former's "Stories" feature. According to Forbes, Snapchat's feature existed three years before this, hence the familiar structure of the WhatsApp update to Snapchat users.
In the official WhatsApp Blog, the company says "Starting today, we are rolling out an update to status, which allows you to share photos and videos with your friends and contacts on WhatsApp in an easy and secure way. Yes, even your status updates are end-to-end encrypted."
Apparently, the popular messaging app is chalking another milestone by including more options for users to have more fun using the app. The new WhatsApp update will be launched February 24, the day the messaging app turns eight.
A WhatsApp spokesperson told Forbes that the company is planning to develop features that will be useful to its 1.2 billion users around the globe.
"Over time, we've seen a big uptick in users sharing rich content, such as photos, videos and GIFs on WhatsApp. We wanted to offer an simple, secure, and reliable way for people to share this type of content with all their contacts at once," he added.
