The most recent season of "Overwatch" Competitive Play has recently begun and its fans have eagerly checked about the changes it brought. While it launched with success, another has been cancelled. People who were responsible for the project said that ever since the initial release of "Overwatch," the story of how it was created has drastically changed that made them go back to the drawing board. "Overwatch: First Strike" was slated to arrive in March both on the digital platform and in print thru Dark Horse in April. According to PCGamesN, the said comic was planned to tell the game's origin story which details the foundation of "Overwatch" during the Omnic Crisis.
"Overwatch: First Strike's" lead writer Micahel Chu confirmed it thru a post on the Battle.net forums. He said that though they are grateful with the team's fantastic work they have put in the project, still they have decided to cancel it and take the story in a different direction. His post implies that Blizzard has now an ultimately different vision for how those early events have played out, and "First Strike" no longer fits the said vision.
Fortunately, Blizzard graphic novel series has not been entirely cancelled; rather it will just boast a radically different story. Chu also adamantly said that Blizzard is still planning to broaden the story of "Overwatch" in other ways.
The story is still unknown and might be possibly affected by modifications brought by new characters released in the game. Just like Doomfist group of heroes, who were said to be only vaguely touched upon in the gaming lore so far, might be possibly developed into a fully-fledged character. Since this writing, the said post of Blizzard cancellation of "Overwatch's" graphic novel placed on the "Overwatch" forums appears to be now locked and the message from Chu is now unreadable.
