The leakster's tweet states that a Samsung staff has reportedly said that, "We will the fingerprint, it's obsolete." Fingerprint reader is a common feature that can be not only found on iPhones but also on low-end Chinese smartphones. Hence, smartphones manufacturers are looking to add new biometric recognition features like iris scanner and facial recognition.
Microsoft's Lumia 950 and 950 XL from 2015 that met with poor sales are equipped with iris scanner. They do not feature a fingerprint scanner. The Galaxy Note 7 from last year that was discontinued because of its faulty battery also featured an iris scanner. The upcoming Galaxy S8 and S8 phones also feature it. The 2017 iPhone 8 is also rumored to come with a retina scanner.
The iris scanner is now expected to become a common security in all upcoming smartphones and the facial recognition is expected to be available as an added security feature. Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst from KGI Securities known for revealing features of upcoming iPhones has stated that st Apple that will be celebrating 10th anniversary of iPhones is pegged to come with a facial detection feature.
Since Samsung too is expected to adopt the feature, its next generation flagships such as Galaxy Note 8 from this year and next year's Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 are now rumored to come with face detection, Gizmo China reported. The new face detection security feature is also rumored to arrive on Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones. Repots claim that it can unlock a smartphone in .01 seconds.
