Kuo's latest investor note focuses on Samsung and its initial shipments of the Galaxy S8. He predicts the Galaxy S8 shipments would be slower than that of the Galaxy S7. This is because Galaxy S7 was essentially Samsung's only flagship release last year due to the Galaxy Note 7 recall. Samsung is expected to ship around 40-45 million units in 2017F, which is slower as compared to the 52 million Galaxy S7 units shipped.
The KGI analyst adds the Samsung Galaxy S8 lacks sufficiently attractive selling points and that the OLED iPhone could be edgier for consumers. As for the design, Kuo projects a full-screened Galaxy S8 display without the presence of a home button.
All models of the Samsung Galaxy S8 series will come with 3D-curved cover glass, including six cutouts at the top front consisting of a proximity sensor, ambient light sensor (ALS), IR-LED transmitter and receiver for iris-scanner recognition, front camera, and receiver, according to Gadgets 360.
As for the camera, Kuo expressed disappointment in the lack of dual-camera at the back of the Samsung Galaxy S8 phones, which will carry an 8-megapixel front camera alongside a 12-megapixel rear camera. This is a tad bit impressive compared to the Galaxy S8's predecessor. Kuo says has an "immature dual-camera ISP design."
The notable analyst also verified previous Samsung leaks concerning two size variants of the Galaxy S8, 9to5Google reported. According to him, one model will have a 5.8-inch display and 3000mAh battery while the other boasts of a 6.2-inch display and 3500mAh battery.
Both Galaxy S8 variations would feature OLED display and feature WQHD+ resolutions of 2960x2400. Also, the variants to be sold in the US, Japan, and China will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 processor, while those sold in Europe and Asia will have Samsung's Exynos 8895.
Finally, for the much-awaited Samsung phone's release date, Kuo discredits earlier reports that claimed the mobile phone would be delayed until Apr. 28 and says Samsung is eyeing Apr. 21.
