It has been found that caffeine can help protect and prevent against dementia. Dementia is a general term for a decline in mental ability which interferes with daily life. The most common type of dementia is Alzheimer's disease.

In most cases, there is no cure that slows down or stops the debilitating progression of the condition. However, now researchers have found that caffeine has a protective ability against dementia.

Caffeine is found in coffee, cocoa, tea, and many more. According to a study titled "Caffeine is a protective factor in dementia and Alzheimer's disease," coffee drinking is associated with a decreased risk of dementia. This may be due to antioxidants and increased insulin sensitivity.

In fact, caffeine can even protect against other neurodegenerative disorders, according to Medical News Today. Surprisingly, there are 47.5 million people who are living with dementia, and this number is expected to triple by 2050.

But this benefit also has its limitation. According to Alzdiscovery, coffee and caffeine intake should be taken in moderately because it may lead to anxiety at high doses. One study reported that caffeine consumption interrupts sleep if consumed after 6 p.m. People with dementia often experience or suffer from sleeping problems which can be intensified by caffeine.

Caffeine is indeed effective against dementia and Alzheimer's disease, but it also has its side effects. It is much better to take caution and be aware of other ways to prevent such illness like learning a second, or third language, keeping your mind working, laughing more, and eating a healthy diet.
