No one wants breakups, but most of us may have gone through a lot of it. Maybe, you don't even remember how you coped up with the different levels of depression afterward.
According to a clinical psychologist in New York City Michael Brustein, PsyD, being sad is normal especially after a relationship ends. You may feel empty, and there are times when you will question yourself. Despite that, you will still feel lovable and have your sense of self-intact which will allow you to believe and hope that someone else will be there for you.

But our usual sentiments can be overlapped by darker feelings of depression after a relationship ends. A psychologist in New York City, Chloe Carmichael, Ph.D. described the hallmark features of depression including worthlessness, helplessness, and hopelessness.
She pointed out that worthlessness particularly fuels depression. Breakups can trigger depressive episodes especially when it comes with other emotional life events such as the death of a loved one or losing a job, according to MSN. It is hard to determine how the reasonable sense ends and depression begins.
According to Dr. Brustein, if you judge your self-based on a breakup, it is likely to manifest as significant distress. Other common signs of depression include changes in your sleeping habits, hygiene, appetite, and ability to concentrate. He said that the first month of breakup is a natural grieving process, but after that, if you still feel deep sadness, you are probably depressed.
And you need professional support, according to Refinery. You may also consider meeting with friends or studying new skills.
