Intel released its Optane solid state drive or SSD with limited memory capacity of 32 GB in January and it has just launched Optane SSDs which come with a lot higher memory capacity.
Intel has unveiled the Optane SSD DC P4800X series and the Optane SSD DC P4800X series with the Intel Memory Drive technology on Mar. 19 and the chipmaker calls it the most responsive SSDs for data centers.

"Deployed as blazing fast storage or caching tier, Intel Optane SSD DC P4800X breaks the confines of traditional storage to significantly increase scale per server and accelerate applications.
When deployed as extended memory, this drive expands the system memory pool, creating bigger, more cost-effective memory to gain higher quality insights," shared the company.
The SSD DC P4800X has 375 GB of storage capacity and will cost 1,520 USD on Mar. 19 with limited availability. It will be widely available on the second half of 2017 while a 750 GB PCI-E or PCI-Express model is also expected to be available for enterprise users in Q2 of the year.
A 375 GB model with U.2 form factor will be available as well, along with a 1.5 TB PCI-E card and 750 GB and 1.5 TB U.2 sticks in H2 of the year. It is compatible with the PCI-E or NVMe and U.2 slots and is expected to run on several AMD 32 core Naples chipsets.
According to reports, Intel will ship DRAM modules with the SSD in 2018 but the company has remained tight-lipped about when the modules will be available to the public.
The Optane series is considered as the superfast replacement to older gen SSDs, being almost eight times faster than the current SSDs. Intel and Micron developed the 3D Xpoint which has been housed in the Optane products.
It stores data through the resistance of cells. The P4800X comes with low latency and sequential transfer capabilities of 2,400 Mbps for reading and 2,000 Mbps for writing. It can withstand high input and output loads.
