If you think WiFi is fast, then you are in for a surprise. Li-Fi is said to be a hundred times faster than the currently used wireless technology.
Personal computers, video game consoles, smartphones, tablet computers, digital camera, and other related devices make use of WiFi for wireless local area networking. Although it is considered as fast by today's standards, a new technology dubbed as Li-Fi may soon replace it.

The idea of harnessing the power of light for internet connection was introduced by Professor Harald Haas during his presentation at a TED Talk event back in 2011. From the word light fidelity, comes the term Li-FI.
Although it is still in its developmental stage, various research and experiments have been conducted on the said wireless technology. In a study conducted by Oxford University researchers, it was found out that the newly developed wireless connection is capable of achieving a bi-directional speed of 224 gigabits per second (Gbps), according to Electronic Engineering Times.
In a more recent update on the said Li-Fi technology, researchers at the Eindhoven University of Technology have ben able to develop a new Li-Fi system that makes use of harmless infrared rays, according to Futurism.
As an overview, the Li-Fi system utilizes light antennas to transmit data wirelessly. With the help of the said antennas, rays of light from an optical fiber can be precisely directed from different wavelength and various angles. By doing so, interference may be eliminated in the process.
The new setup being offered by the new Li-Fi system will also eliminate congestion. Therefore, avoiding slow connection when there are many Wi-Fi network users. Devices will not share a connection with the newly improved wireless connection.
