Apple Confirmed to Discontinue iPad Mini – Here’s Why
Apple unveiled two new iPad models this week - the 9.7-inch iPad that will sell starting at $329 and a bumped up iPad Mini 4, which gained 128GB of storage space. Those looking to score an iOS-powered tablet anytime soon are likely to ask: "Which is the better buy?"
The 2017 regular-sized iPad refresh starting at $329 seems immediately irresistible when compared to the 128GB iPad Mini 4, which will retail for $399. Shoppers that will pick the former will get to keep $70 but will need to deal with 32GB of internal memory with no prospect of storage expansion.

And the same bigger iPad buyers will need to know that the new tablet is not necessarily a jump from the iPad Air 2. The latter has a slimmer build and better display, but is powered only by A8X processor with 2GB RAM, according to 9to5Mac.
In comparison, the 2017 iPad is slightly thicker and therefore heavier. And in case it matters, the device skipped on the "display coating and ... laminated cover glass," that were found on the iPad Air 2 so in terms of better viewing experience, the older model will prove superior.
However, the same also pointed out that it is an A9 chip that will fire up the new iPad, which is the same engine that was introduced with the iPhone 6S, and is certainly an enhanced version of the Air 2 processor. It is expected too that Apple will deploy the 2017 iPad with 2GB of RAM support.
So all considered and with starting price that is relatively easy on the pocket, it's safe to conclude that the 2017 iPad is a compelling buy, and more so when it is pitted against the iPad Mini 4 that Apple upgraded with 128GB of memory.
Not only that the bigger iPad is cheaper but also it packs more power. The Mini 4, despite the spec-bump it acquired, is being left behind when the chief consideration is the inner components. According to Cult of Mac, the compact tablet will have the iPhone 6-era A8 chip as its source of life, meaning the device is a generation behind the 2017 iPad.
The same report declared that with the $399 price tag, it's easy to see that the iPad Mini 4, even with the 128GB storage space, "is a total rip off." The only few things going for the device are its compact size and increased built-in memory.
Yet buyers looking to get the 2017 9.7-inch iPad in 128GB flavor will only need to add $30 to the price they will pay for the Mini 4, which the Cult of Mac report labeled as a waste of money.
