AMD Ryzen Zen 16-core/32-thread CPU to be Released Soon as Part of Naples Platform?
Apart from the already revealed and well-received Ryzen CPUs - the Ryzen 7, 5, and 3 - it appears AMD has more game-changing chips to introduce this 2017. Reportedly coming out soon are the Ryzen 16-core/32-thread processor and the AMD Naples server - both still part of the surging chipmaker's Zen platform.

While still in the rumor zone, the Ryzen chip soon boasting of a 16-core/32-thread variant gained further ground with PC Gamer reporting that the processor was spotted with overclocked speed of 3.6GHz. The base clock was said to 3.1GHz.
In earlier reports, the same chip was to thought to unbox with base clock of 2.4GHz and can be boosted up to 2.8GHz, PC Gamer noted on its report. It's unclear if the same chip will be part of the Ryzen 7 series, likely to become the most premium model in the line, but according to the same report, "16-core chip in question is said to be a cut-down version of Naples, which is a beefed up version of Ryzen for the server market."
The Ryzen chip with 16 cores will be reportedly introduced with a new socket that is compatible with AMD's X399 chipset with support for quad-channel memory. It is expected that AMD will challenge Intel's X99 platform with the 16-core chip, likely serving as the former's beefed up workstation bet.
It could be that the 16-core Ryzen chip is a stripped down version of the rumored Naples server platform that AMD will reveal soon, but Forbes said in a report that in its full-glorious form Naples will start at 32-core/64-thread server configuration. But with powerful cores that can handle simultaneous multi-threading (SMT) with ease, Naples in 64-core/128-thread is fully attainable.
Basing on known specifications so far, "Naples has an obvious core and thread-count advantage," when pitted against Intel's top-end Xeon E5-2669 v4, which has 22 cores, the report added.
Also, Naples processors are seen to hit the market with dual 8-channel memory controllers that can accommodate up to 4TB of DDR4 RAM with interface speed of 2400MHz. In comparison, Intel's bet can only manage quad-channel memory setup with its currently known DDR4 speed at 1866MHz.
Forbes said AMD has earlier showcased that the "dual-socket Naples server was up to 2.5X faster than a competing dual-socket Intel Xeon server."
AMD is rumored to have set a release date that is no later than June 2017 for the Naples server platform but in contrast, it remains unclear when exactly is the 16-core/32-thread Ryzen CPU is coming out.
