As reported by Tech Radar, the Sony Xperia L1 is finally announced by the tech giant following the device's certification in Russia. The low-tier smartphone is quite similar to its predecessor, although the upcoming device will boast a new lineup of smart software features similar to "Xperia Actions." The new smart features will allow the handset's settings adopt to the user's surroundings.
For one, the device will automatically dim its display light and set its audio profile to silent during nighttime, as part of the smart features' "good night" mode. Also, there will be a new Smart Cleaner background app which will clean up cached data and unnecessary processes that slow down the device's performance.
As for the smartphone's appearance, the Sony Xperia L1 will sport a 5.5-inch display screen with 720 x 1080 resolution. It has the Sony Xperia's classic rectangular shape with smooth edges, plus a bezel-less design except on the top and bottom portions of the screen. To note, the Sony Xperia XZ and XA1 Ultra still have large bezels above and below their screen. The Sony Xperia L1 also has an almost edge-to-edge display that goes near the appearance of other flagship phones' dual edge variants.
According to NDTV, the core specifications of Sony Xperia L1 include a 1.45GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737T chipset and Mali-T720 MP2 GPU supported by 2GB RAM. It has 16GB worth of internal storage, which is quite large compared to the storage capacity of other entry-level handsets. The device's memory is expandable via microSD card slot.
The camera department of Sony Xperia L1 is impressive as well, boasting a 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, while its front-facing camera has a 5MP sensor with the same aperture as the back lens. The front camera can cover a 24mm-wide angle.
The entry-level smartphone also does not disappoint with its impressive battery features. The Sony Xperia L1 comes with 2,620mAh battery that supports Qnovo adaptive charging for extended battery lifespan. Sony's STAMINA mode will save up more power for extended use of the smartphone. Lastly, the Sony Xperia L1 will run in the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS.
There is still no exact date set for the official launching of Sony Xperia L1. However, its release is expected this April.
