Pornhub Promises Enhanced Security, Privacy with Switch to HTTPS Encryption: Important Things to Know
Pornhub is dead serious on protecting users' security and privacy. That seems to be the chief motivation of the adult site's switch to HTTPS, a move that will be seen too on sister site YouPorn.
At best, moving from HTTP to HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) will minimize the risks users are courting when browsing through the pages of Pornhub, Venture Beat reported. Phishing attacks and identity thefts will be prevented or at least minimized as the same report indicated that with HTTPS protocol in effect on both Pornhub and YouPorn users' data will be shielded from possible breaches.

"With the switch to HTTPS we are able to protect their identity as well as safeguard them against exposure to malware by third parties," Pornhub vice president Corey Price was quoted by Venture Beat as saying in a statement.
The report said HTTPS is now live on Pornhub and YouPorn is expected to jump in on April 4, which will bring to five the total of adult sites that make use of the more secured web browsing protocol. The switch, Pornhub said, will offer better protection against malware and the possibility of data leaks.
MindGeek, which owns and operates Pornhub and YouPorn, finally using HHTPS is tantamount to guarding around 100 million internet users each day. The figures, according to Wired, represent the size of web traffic that the company attracts on a daily basis.
To put things into perspective, the report noted that the biggest website today, Facebook, generates twice as much every day.
Pornhub alone is dubbed by the same report as in internet behemoth. The adult site boasts of 75 million daily visitors that Alexa ranks the site number 38 on the list of the biggest active websites in the world. YouPorn, on the other hand, is ranked within the top 300, which seems too far when compared to Pornhub's standing. But as Wired noted, YouPorn is known to stream to hundreds of millions or up to a billion of views on any given month.
And to further underscore Pornhub's deep concern for privacy and security, the site unabashedly mimics the same tactic used by tech giants like Apple and Google to identify security bugs. Venture Beat said Pornhub offers a bounty of $20,000 for researchers that will pinpoint security holes on its operation.
