Since 2014, OnePlus have been selling its smartphones through invitation system. The OnePlus X handset was also available on invitation basis. However, from today buyers will not require an invitation to purchase the upper midrange smartphone, Phone Arena reported.
The OnePlus X is a dual-SIM smartphone that comes with a 5-inch display. It carries support for full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and delivers a pixel density of 441 ppi. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 layer.
The smartphone is powered by an older Qualcomm chipset, Snapdragon 801. It is the same SoC that is available on older flagships like Sony Xperia Z3, HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy S5 and LG G3. The chipset features a quad-core processor that clocks at 2.3 GHz. The performance of the chipset is improved by 3 GB of RAM.
The internal storage of OnePlus X is 16 GB. Unlike the OnePlus One and OnePlus 2 smartphones that do not feature an expansion slot, the OnePlus X carries support for up to 128 GB of microSD storage on its second SIM card slot.
It comes preinstalled with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS that is overlaid with OxygenOS 2.2.0 UI software from OnePlus. For photography, the OnePlus X offers a rear camera of 13 MP that is enabled with features like phase detection autofocus and LED flash. On its front side, there is a selfie camera of 8 MP.
It is packed with a decent battery of 2525 mAh capacity. The OnePlus X is available in multiple color options such as Onyx, Ceramic and Champagne. The handset can be purchased for $249 through the OnePlus online store.
The OnePlus X smartphone has generally received positive reception from critics. According to Engadget, OnePlus X has a topnotch quality chassis and delivers impressive performance. One needs to be aware of the fact that even though the smartphone supports LTE connectivity, it does not carry support for LTE bands 12 and 17 which means AT&T and T-Mobile users will only be able to enjoy 3G connectivity on the device. Also, it won't support Verizon's network.
