Imminent OnePlus 5 Release Date as Codename for Next-Gen Flagship Killer Leaked via Twitter?
Solid proofs are pouring in that the OnePlus 5 release date could happen real soon, and the latest is a Twitter post that supposedly revealed the handset's codename. The sequel to the OnePlus 3T is internally referred to as A5000.
In a post on April 14 by Roland Quandt and picked by 9to5Google, it was claimed that the OnePlus 5 is real and is codenamed A5000 if a leaked document from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is to be believed. The information is the latest in the string of leaked details that seemingly point not only to the next-gen OnePlus' existence but also to its approaching rollout.

The same report pointed out that the first OnePlus carried the model number A1000 and the follow up A2000 while the OnePlus 3 was A3000. It appears that OnePlus will not be using A4000 on the account of superstitious belief - that number 4 will spell bad luck for the device
So it makes sense that the upcoming OnePlus 5 is codenamed A5000 and thanks to the leaked MIIT listing, the handset is essentially confirmed.
And things are starting to shape up for the so-called flagship killer as earlier spotted details indicated the device will undergo a design makeover from the previous models. Android Authority said the next OnePlus model will boast of a 5.5-inch all-screen profile with an OLED front panel will get a fingerprint reader on the rear of the device as a result of the redesign.
Also to be found on the back panel is a 23MP main shooter and inside is a 3000mAh battery pack. The smaller battery size is due to the trimmed down thickness of the handset at 7mm.
To power up the OnePlus 5 is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 that likely will boosted by 8GB of RAM support since the OnePlus 3T came out with 6GB of RAM.
Release date of the OnePlus 5 is yet to be hinted but it is projected around summertime or June 2017 at the earliest. And in keeping with flagship killer status, the next OnePlus will lure in buyers with sticker price that is no higher than $500.
